How to track soccer stats
To track soccer stats for one player, choose four or five stats that fit their position. Record each one as it happens. Pick the number the game was about at full time. The steps work on paper or in Statline.
1. Follow one player
A whole team over two halves is too much for one parent with one pen. Pick your player and stay with them, on the ball and off it.
2. Choose stats that fit the position
Goals and assists suit attackers. Tackles and passes suit the midfield and defence. Saves are the goalkeeper's stat. In Statline the soccer buttons include G, AST, SH, SOT, TKL and INT. Advanced mode adds SV for saves and PAS for passes, and you can tap them in every game. The advanced breakdown after the game comes with Pro.
3. Record each stat as it happens
Tally marks on paper, or one tap on a big button in Statline. Hold a button, then tap to take one off. Undo reverses the last change. On iPhone, every tap gives a small buzz, so you can keep watching the game.
4. Check at half-time
At the break, look at the totals and fix anything you doubt. Statline keeps the score and every total at the top of the live screen.
5. Pick the headline at full time
The scoreboard says who won. Your stat line says what your player did. On a day of won 3-1, the headline might be 5 tackles. In Statline you pick a headline stat and up to two more. The card arrives in your club's colours.
Over a season
Averages update after every game. Each game keeps its opponent, date, result and score. In Pro, the form guide lays the last five games side by side.
